Seasons In The Sun - Terry Jacks 1974

 

原作者是法國的傑克斯布瑞爾（Jacques Brel），發表於1961年，曲子原名" Le moribond "，意思是「臨終的人」。作者發現自己罹患癌症，有感而發寫下這首歌，表達對父親、妻子和摯友的依依難捨。1964年經由好友洛德麥昆（Rod MaKuen）翻成英文傳到美國，但是由Kinston Trio所灌錄的第一次發行並未受到廣泛的注意。一直到1974年Terry Jack再次翻唱，才成為全美冠軍曲。Jacques Brel 原唱較為輕快，節奏感強，比較不像是臨別憂傷的曲子。Terry Jack的版本節奏比較緩慢，有人認為Terry Jack的詮釋完全「失真」，但或許正是這樣不同的詮釋方法觸動了聽眾的心弦。1999年Westlife (西城男孩)重新翻唱這首經典，節奏走的是Terry Jack的style，頗有傳承的味道，當然，唱片的錄音技術絕對比1974年要好上太多。不過，坦白說，我還是認為1974的版本最為經典感人，Terry Jack歌聲中特有的絲絲懷念、淡淡遺憾與些許憂鬱，能夠傳唱數十年不是沒有道理。

我第一次聽到這首歌是電視廣告柯達軟片的背景音樂，精確的年份已經模糊不記得了。由於對廣告印象深刻，還特別去唱片行買Terry Jack 的盜版錄音帶版本。那時候的盜版帶製作粗糙，為了在一捲帶子裡塞進較多首歌，常常把歌曲「去頭去尾」，附帶的歌詞如果是盜版商重新打字的版本，更是錯漏字連篇。年輕時英文字彙認識不多，英文聽力更不好，還得去邊聽原曲、邊對著天書歌詞「解字謎」，結果當然是對歌詞意涵一知半解。一開始剛看歌名我還以為這是一首讚美陽光季節的歌，後來才知道這是一首生死離別的曲子。當時也不知道原唱罹患癌症的背景資訊，直覺以為這是一位臨終少年懷念父親、好友與女友的歌。當時一邊聽歌、一邊想著：如果有一天自己也像歌曲中的主角一樣來日無多，怎麼辦？聽著聽著眼眶竟也跟著紅了。
